Hiking in Scotland
Back to Back Treks on the West Highland Way & Isle of Skye
Our bags are packed and soon we will be off to the airport for the first leg of our hiking trip in Scotland. The “we” is Scot Smith, Bill Farrow, and me…Terry Davis. For Scot and I, this is our 4th long hiking adventure over the past five years. In 2019 we completed the Camino Frances from France to the west coast of Spain. In 2020 we were sidelined by the Covid pandemic. In 2021 we backpacked the Colorado Trail and then last year we returned to Europe to do the Camino del Norte and the Camino Primitivo. Bill joined us last year for the Primitivo hike. Each of those hikes was over 500 miles.
In my last blog of the del Norte/Primitivo adventure I did mention that I thought that might be my last long distance hike. Well, that is technically accurate depending upon your personal definition of ‘long hike’. The combined length of the two hikes we will be doing in Scotland is just under 200 miles…not long by past comparisons!
We depart at 7:30 this evening and fly from Denver to London, then after customs and a short layover we fly to Glasgow Scotland. We will spend two nights in Glasgow recovering from jet lag and enjoying the city. Then we start the 100 mile long West Highland Way hike. Our second hike is on the Isle of Skye following a break during which we hike up Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Great Britain.
The goal of this blog is to share some photos of our trip along with some philosophical meanderings, and hopefully some humor.
Scot, Bill, and I invite you to follow along as we hike across Scotland!!
